A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens which was first published in 1843 and has proved to be so popular it has never been out of print since. Charles Dickens began to write the book 174 years ago in October 1843 as his wife was pregnant with their fifth child and they needed the money. He wrote the book in six weeks and the first 6,000 copies were published on 19th December 1843 but by Christmas Eve had sold out so a second and third issue were printed before the New Year. Peter Harrington has an excellent, bright, first edition, second issue (1843) for sale for £3,750. Peter Harrington also has a deluxe edition number 64 of 500 which was illustrated by the artist Arthur Rackham and published in 1915. Other festive favourites include: A delightful copy of The Tailor of Gloucester by Beatrice Potter which contains 26 charming illustrations also by her. It is an excellent bright, first edition, first impression, with a second deluxe binding.
